Activity 6: We are architects.

Are you here again? Damn, how fast you go!

What do you think if I tell you what the house where I lived during confinement was like? It was a small house where there were few spaces where so many people could live together, to be able to see the pictures and plans below, to give you an idea. I’d like them to do the same explaining what your ideal home would be like if you had to stay there for a season, but we’ll make it a little harder and you’ll have to do it in a mock-up, okay?

Hands on!

Images of the back house

You will have to make a model from a shoe box where we will have to build your ideal house to spend some time. You need to emphasize what is essential for you during a confinement and what are the main elements for you inside the house and justify in your diary these answers.

HELLO KITTY

Along the way, Mom and Dad revealed the story of our hideout in detail. For several months, they had had part of our furniture transported, piece by piece, as well as house clothes and part of our clothing; The planned date of our voluntary disappearance had been set for July 16. As a result of the summons, we had to advance our departure by ten days, so that we were going to be content with a rather rudimentary installation. The hiding place was in the building of Dad's offices.

The building is made up as follows: on the ground floor, there is a large warehouse that serves as a warehouse. Next to the warehouse door is the front door of the house, behind which a second door gives access to a staircase. Climbing this staircase, you reach a door, partly frosted glass, which reads Accounting in black letters. It is the desk that faces the channel; a spacious room, very light, with files on the walls, and occupied by a staff currently reduced to three. Going through a kind of locker room, where there are a chest and a large closet containing the reserves of papers, envelopes, etc., you reach a small rather dark room that opens onto the patio; In addition, Mr Kraler's office can be reached through a glass door at the end of the dressing room, which opens from inside the office, and not from outside. Through the other exit from Mr Kraler's office, there is a narrow corridor, and you immediately pass in front of the coal factory and, going up four steps, you finally come to the room that is the pride of the property, whose door reads: Private. There you can see dark and imposing furniture, linoleum covered with beautiful rugs, a magnificent lamp, a radio, everything of the highest order. Next to this room, a large spacious kitchen, with a gas stove with two burners and a small boiler for a bathroom. Next to the kitchen, the W.C. That is the second floor.

In the corridor on the ground floor, there is a white wooden staircase, at the end of which is a landing that also forms a corridor. There are doors to the right and left; the one on the left leads to the front of the house, where there are large rooms that serve as storage and warehouses, and from there you can go up to the attic. The front rooms can also be reached through the second entrance door, climbing a steep staircase, Dutch enough, to break all the bones.

The door on the right leads to our secret annexe. No one in the world would suspect that this simple grey painted door conceals so many rooms. The entrance door is reached by climbing some steps; when you open it, you enter the annexe.
In front of this entrance door, a steep staircase; On the left, a small corridor leads to a room that has been transformed into the family's home as well as the bedroom of Mr and Mrs Frank; next door, a smaller room is the study and bedroom of the young ladies Frank. To the right of the stairs is a windowless room with a dressing table for ablutions; There is also a small redoubt where the W.C. has been installed, as well as a door with access to the bedroom that I share with Margot.

When you open the door to the landing on the third floor, you are surprised to find so much space and so much light in the annexe of such an old house; the houses that line the canals of Amsterdam are the oldest in the city. This large room, equipped with a gas cooker and a sink, which previously served as a laboratory, is intended to be the bedroom of the Van Daan couple, as well as a kitchen, living room, dining room, study or workshop. [...] There is a loft as large as the rooms that serve as storage on the ground floor. And I've already shown you in full our beautiful "secret annex."
